I’ve been playing poker now for about 5 years, I have wagered cards my entire life starting with games of Gin Rummy for pennies with my Grand Mother, to all of the various types of Brag and basic random games such as Go Fish, Crash and one so gracefully called, card on head game. I used to often win, whatever game we were playing and even though I liked to call it skill, it was very hard to justify considering the randomness of the games we were betting, so I was happy to accept I was having an extended run of luck.
Then came Poker, or additional importantly Holdem Poker, made popular by a bunch of Texas card gamblers in the 1960’s and since grown into one of the biggest card phenomena ever experienced. Poker is totally the new black, it can be ultra awesome with several of the world’s leading stars racing to have their name associated with it. Just a quick flick via the TV channels nowadays and it is possible to not escape from poker, and obviously there is the fabled WSOP, the Holy Grail and Mecca all rolled into one for each and every individual gambler.
So with all of this new found popularity, with so numerous Tv programmes devoted to poker, and magazine and book shelves filled up with high quality material written by the leading minds on poker, when are men and women going to understand that this game is all about position!?
Perhaps I need to not get so worked up about this, after all the far more persons who have difficulty with the subtle tactics and strategies needed for succeeding regularly at Texas hold’em, the far better it’s for everyone else, appropriate? I mean, if they cannot be bothered to look at all of the obtainable info about why placement is so essential, why must we bother? We must just be happy there’s another fish at the table!
It is true, we must not encourage idleness with guidance and aid. Even so, I liken this to a helpful game of football. Naturally the stakes aren’t so high, but when you notice a gambler having difficulties, you help them, offer them some advice, ultimately showing them a way to get pleasure from, like and be grateful for the casino game as much as you. I’m asking all house gamblers to do the same thing with their poker buddies who haven’t quite got a handle on the subtleties of wagering position. Assist them to grow their respect for the game. Needless to say, do not attempt to try this one in your nearby gambling establishment, the sharks won’t appreciate you teaching their lunch how to swim!
