Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to achieve final game in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest players anywhere in the world. While competing in internet poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He frequently plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus frequently buys in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then goes all in. I believe Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has little or no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy in.

Playing for the min takes almost all of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I think television can alter our view of the real world every now and then. The greatest players anywhere in the world might be players you have never heard about. Gus can be seen competing in online poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in big stakes omaha hold’em and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in money games?
