Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to achieve final poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest bettors in the world. While competing in net poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus often participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I believe Hansen is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the minimum takes most of the ability out of big stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amount. I believe television can alter our perception of the real world at times. The best players in the world might be guys you have never heard of. Gus can be seen participating in net poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in money rounds?
