Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only player to make it to the final poker table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. He won a big pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest enthusiasts around the world. While playing online poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus often competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus frequently buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the min buy-in.

Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I believe television can alter our perception of the real world at times. The greatest players in the world could be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen betting on net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly competes in big stakes omaha hi-low and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in cash rounds?
