Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to make it to the last table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. He won a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest bettors anywhere in the world. While betting on web poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He regularly participates in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all in. I accept that Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is penniless, he has no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy in.

Buying in for the min takes a majority of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full dollar value. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world at times. The greatest players in the world may be players you have never heard of. Gus can be found gambling on online poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in high stakes omaha high and texas hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his skills in money games?
