Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 in which he enjoyed gambling on different card games at a young age. He found himself getting really aggressive in the above-mentioned card games while competing against his dad. After graduating from high school, Howard made a decision to place college on hold for a little while and moved away to New York City to participate in some serious chess. While playing chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s 1st 2 years were tough as he would play countless hours and lose a majority of the time. He earned some additional money by being an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He theorized he could better his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He made an effort to acquire more rest and concentrate even more on poker.

The actual advancement in his abilities began when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest gamblers would often challenge one another. Howard had access into some of the best minds in chess. With their help, he would hone his cunning thinking skills. He used these strategic ideas in the game of NL holdem.

Howard also helped his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie was a superb student of poker as she would consistently be asking questions about how to make the proper decision. Howard told Annie Duke to head out to Sin City and play in the World Series of Poker competition. Annie Duke is one of the best women players the poker arena today. Howard Lederer headed to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in cash games for the following decade. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, Howard decided to compete in more tournaments.
