Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the closing game in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a large pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest gamblers around the world. While competing in internet poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all in. I know Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is penniless, he has no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy in.

Playing for the min takes a majority of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the full dollar value. I think television can alter our view of the real world every now and then. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world may be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen gambling on online poker on Full Tilt. He commonly participates in big stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in cash rounds?
