Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 where he liked gambling on numerous card games at a young age. He discovered himself becoming very competitive in the above-mentioned card games as he was playing his dad. After finishing high school, Howard decided to place college on hold for a little while and moved away to New York City to participate in some serious chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s 1st two years were difficult as he would play countless hours and lose most times. He earned some additional money by becoming an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He theorized he could boost his game by balancing his life away from poker. He made an effort to get more rest and concentrate even more on poker.

The real improvement in his skills began when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the best gamblers would frequently play against one another. Howard had access into a few of the best players in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would sharpen his logical thinking abilities. Howard applied these strategy ideas to the game of NL texas hold’em.

He also helped his sibling Annie Duke learn poker. Annie was a superb student of the game as she would always be asking questions about the right way to make the proper choice. He told Annie to move out to Las Vegas and play in the World Series of Poker competition. She is one of the best female players the poker world ever. Howard headed to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in cash games for the next 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, he made the decision to play more tournaments.
