Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to make it to the final table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He won a big pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest gamblers around the world. While gambling on internet poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He regularly competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I believe Hansen is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is penniless, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the min buy-in.

Playing for the min takes a majority of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is supposed to be 1 of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I believe television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest players in the world may be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be found participating in net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in high stakes omaha high and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his talents in cash games?
